Motogp Racing
Apart from the World Superbikes Championship, I'm also a big fan of MotoGp Racing.
This granprix is consider as one of the premier grandprix of the motorcycle road racing in the world. Currently it is divided into three distinct categories i.e 125cc, 250cc and Motogp. The 250cc class will be replaced with the 600cc motorcycle in the year 2010.
As being stated in my hub about the world superbike championship, the motorcycle used in Motogp is purpose-built racing machines. Thus is not open for sale to the public and cannot be legitimately ridden on the open road.
The first grand prix organized by the Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme (FIM) was in 1949. The commercial of this grand prix is owned by Dorna Sports. The team are represented by the International Road Racing Teams Association (IRTA) and manufacturers by the Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers Association (MSMA).
Classes for 50c, 80cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, and 500cc solo machines have existed over time, and 350cc and 500cc sidecars. The four strokes engines had dominated the grand prox in 1950's as well as in most of the 1960's.But a good development occurred in the 1960's as the two strokes engines begins to overtakes the four strokes engine.
We can see the results in the 1970's as the two strokes eclipsed the four-strokes.In late 1970's Honda was trying to give a new challenge to the two strokes engine and trying to be at the top class by introducing the four strokes engine NR500, but it was failed.
The racing continue to develop and evolved, where we can see the 50cc class was replaced by an 80cc class. In the 1990's this small cc class was dropped entirely. Before that development, the 3500cc class was dropped in the 1980's. The sidecars class also dropped in the 1990's. Thus, it were only three racing class remaining in 1990's. The class are 125cc, 250cc and 500cc.
In this motorcycle racing championship, the MotoGP has changed dramatically in recent years. We can see that, the 500c engine, regardless two or four strokes engine is allowed in the grand prix racing. This was the situation in the middle of 1970's until 2002.
With this specification, all the machines use during this period of time were two strokes engine. During this period of grand prix racing, the appearance of the two- and three-cylinder two-stroke 500s were seen, but though they had a minimum-weight advantage under the rules, typically attained higher corner speed and could qualify well, they lacked the power of the four cylinder machines.
The rules has been changed in 2002, where it permitted manufacturers to choose between running two-strokes engines (500cc or less) or four-strokes (990cc or less) and have their choice of engine configuration. Due to this changes, the manufacturers has an advantage of extra 490cc on the machine and they had a good chance and way in dominating the two strokes engine.
Due to this development also, in 2003 there were no two strokes machine reaming in the Motogp class. But, the domination of the two strokes machine is still maintained in the 125cc and 250cc class. In 2007, the MotoGP class had its maximum engine displacement capacity reduced to 800cc for a minimum of 5 years.
For the 2009, the championship has already raced for the 10 round. The last round was in Donington Park, Great Britain. It was held on the 26th JULY 2009. This year season was a good season, where we can see the riders and teams are head to head in claiming the world title. For the time being , Valentino Rossi for the Yamaha Fiat team is still leading and head the championship point.
The British grand prix was the best for me. As it was hard to predict whose going to be the winner for the Motogp race. The weather was a big challenge for the team to decide what tire to be used during the race. As a result of the weather condition, the Ducati team had used wet weather tyre and it cost them a race. Casey Stoner had finished the race in 14 place and Nicky Hayden ended in 15 place.
Andrea Dovizioso won the Grand prix, and followed by Collin Edwards in second place and the podium was completed by Randy De Puniet in third place.
In this race, Toni Elias was leading in the early stage of the race but then crashed and cannot continue the race. The same thing happen to Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi. BUt Rossi was very fortunate that he can continue the race and finished in fifth place and remain as the leader in the world championship title.
The next race will be in Czech Republic on the 16th AUGUST 2009. Can't wait to see the action.
